 Equine Veterinary Groom

Overview:

Ridings Equine Vets are looking for an equine veterinary groom to join our growing team based in Darrington, Nr Pontefract, West Yorkshire. We are all horse owners, horse lovers and take pride in putting our clients and their horses first. We want to provide the highest standard of veterinary care for horses and make sure our clients feel we are putting their needs first.

The grooms role is one of the most important positions in the practice. You will be assisting our Head Groom to ensure that our in patients are cared for to the highest standards as well as keeping their owners informed and updated on their care. You will also be the first impression of the practice when clients come to see us and it is vital that their first impression is a positive one. There is a lot of behind the scenes work to be done which requires a good knowledge of computers and IT along with some basic office skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Daily care of the in patients including basic health checks and liaising with the duty vet

  • Assist the vets with administering any treatments

  • Liaising with the Head Groom

  • Taking part in daily veterinary rounds and communicating with the vets

  • Keeping good patient care records and ensuring all billing details are correct

  • Communicating with clients about the care of their horse

  • Stable management duties; feeding, mucking out, sweeping

  • Maintaining high standards of care of the in patients including grooming and bathing

  • Lunging and hand grazing in patients

  • Cleaning the stables and barn area, jet washing, painting and disinfecting

  • Maintaining the outside area in a clean and tidy way

  • Organising feed, hay and bedding deliveries

  • Assisting vets on visits

  • Assisting vets at Stapleton

  • Preparing and sending lab samples

  • Cleaning and organising vet vehicles

  • Assisting Head Groom with worm egg count samples

  • Managing our clinical waste collections

  • Backing up X-ray and Ultrasound images

  • Cleaning and charging veterinary equipment

  • Updating client records on the computer system

  • Assisting with office duties where necessary

  • To promote the services offered by the practice and maintain high levels of sales

  • Assisting at client marketing events such as, talks and demonstrations

  • To work as part of the practice team

  • Attend and contribute to practice meetings and events

Key Skills

Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

Proven experience with horses in either a groom position or similar role

Excellent horse handling skills especially with naughty and difficult horses

A-levels or equivalent education

Proficient IT skills including use of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel

Highly organised with an ability to work to a high standard under your own initiative

Knowledge of horses and basic horse management

You must hold a full clean driving licence and be prepared to use your car for work related use

his is a full time position of 42.5 hours per week in addition to a one in four Saturday morning rota. Hours Monday to Friday 8am -4.30pm.

 Salary £7.75 per hour
